Describes the development and validation of the Blais Inventory of Work Motivation (BIWM). Based on self-determination theory, the inventory assesses 8 types of intrinsic or extrinsic work-related motivation or amotivation. Results from more than 2,200 male and female Canadian employees occupying different positions in public, parapublic, and private sectors indicate that the BIWM has adequate psychometric properties.
