In this chapter, we examine a body of work that has culminated in the development and use of the Fleishman Job Analysis Survey (F-JAS). The system, which is based on an extensive multiyear experimental and factor analytic research program, was concerned with the development and evaluation of a comprehensive taxonomy of human abilities. The chapter describes the taxonomy and the measurement system that was developed to evaluate the extent to which the particular abilities were required for performance in a wide range of different jobs and work settings. Many practical applications of the F-JAS are described. Examples of extensive validation studies, using the F-JAS for different purposes in the workplace, are presented. Also we describe a number of different types of applications of the F-JAS in a variety of work settings for a diverse set of jobs. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2019 APA, all rights reserved)
